Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS)

Any LS Busway installation wouldn't be complete without a distributed temperature sensing system (DTS). DTS measures and monitors Busway temperature by means of optical fibers functioning as linear sensors. Temperatures are recorded along the optical sensor cable, thus not at points, but as a continuous profile, offering a comprehensive, highly accurate result.

Benefits

  • Real-time monitoring of crucial systems
  • Access to comprehensive data, history, statistics and reporting
  • Intuitive monitoring using draw -based HMI
  • Long range sensing available without relay device
  • EMI-Free, which minimizes faulty alarms
  • Intuitive interfacing: DTS is easily linked to SCADA, DCS
  • Easy to solve problem by changing optic sensing fiber

The optical fiber cable can be installed directly on a bus bar and on the surface of a busway or cover.

The Importance of Monitoring

Because bus bar is surrounded by strong electric fields, conventional electric sensors such as thermocouple thermometers are not suitable. Busway also follows complicated paths through plant structures and other types of buildings and may have a number of blind spots that cannot be readily imaged using thermal cameras.

DTS helps facilities quickly detect overheating and pinpoint the location of a hotspot. This allows facilities to immediately respond to problems before it leads to costly and expensive plant shutdowns.

General Specifications

DTS offers:

  • Accurate temperature monitoring under a strong electric field
  • Flexible sensor cable for complex, extended structures
  • Quick detection for abnormal locations to prevent burnout
  • Condition-based inspection work by temperature change
